How did we list threatened species?

We based our data on the Red List of Threatened Species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Angiosperm Extinction Risk Predictions (AERP; Bachman et al. 2024). While the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species consists of a list of species that undergone a careful extinction risk assessment (click here for a summary of IUCN threatened categories), AERP applies a machine learning technique to predict the extinction risk of all angiosperms not yet assessed by IUCN and identify species with a higher need for a more complete conservation assessment. After compiling the list of species used in DT PLANTS NETWORK (click here for more details), we identified the conservation status of every species assessed by the two aforementioned initiatives.
