How did we estimate the biomes where the species are found?

We based our data on the global map of Terrestrial Ecoregions of the World, provided by Olson et al. (2001). This map classifies terrestrial areas into 825 terrestrial ecoregions, 14 biomes, and 10 biogeographic realms, allowing us to adopt the spatial scale considered most appropriate for the scope of the DT PLANTS NETWORK. After compiling the cleaned occurrence records for each species (click here for more details), we identified every biome in which each species has been recorded.
